Online Gambling--Is Gambling Online Illegal?
Online gambling is illegal in the USA for casinos and other gambling outlets if you're based in the USA. According to the FBI, the "Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006" all legal gambling activities can take place at their appropriate places but none of it is allowed online. Illegal online gambling includes placing cyber bets on any sporting events and participating in offshore casino wagering. Money may not be transferred to gambling locations via Internet or electronically.
Any company found handling cyberspace transactions that involve gambling activities will be prosecuted and fined if it is discovered by the FBI. Racketeering is big business not only in the USA but on a global scale and illegal online gambling activities are heavily on the increase. Many companies found guilty of marketing illegal online gambling operations have been fined and penalized. If it is discovered that a company has an online gaming account, the US government could confiscate it once it is charged with the offence.
Major media companies like Google, Yahoo, and TSN etc. have been warned by government not to accept online advertisements for online gambling. In December 2007 these three companies were each fined for accepting advertisements that promote online gambling. Illegal online gambling is thriving despite the strict laws imposed. There are no records yet of any US citizen being arrested for online gambling and there is also no federal law that that prohibits online wagering.
Negative out weighs Positive Impacts of GamblingThe negative effects of gambling outstrip the positive ones by far. As casinos create good paying jobs and also attracts tourists and customers from afar, it is also a place of fun, relaxation and entertainment. The negative impact of gambling facilities can have disastrous results. Once the gambling bug has bitten, the cure may be hard and pricy.
That is if the addict wants to be cured. Usually a trail of destruction is left behind before an addicted gambler admits his problem and starts seeking for help. The unnecessary suffering of children because of the negative impact of gambling is enough cause to shut down these centers permanently.
Often the need to satisfy the gambling urge has led to criminal activities. One of the first major signs that the negative impact of gambling is taking its toll is when the gambler starts borrowing money to gamble. Friends or relatives should seriously discourage this and recommend treatment before the situation worsens.
